Time for my last bit of a sample of @ironrootrepub Time for my last bit of a sample of @ironrootrepublic Apotheosis Armagnac Cask – with the Pineau version picking up an award at the @worldwhiskiesawards and distiller Jonathan Likarish getting a highly commended in Distiller of the Year (among other accolades for the distillery) it felt like I need to give them a long-distance toast. Congrats Jonathan, Robert and Marcia – excellent work and excellent booze. . #whiskey

My traditional Christmas leftovers pie, featuring My traditional Christmas leftovers pie, featuring nothing that was made until after Christmas – turkey and ham (breast steaks as there was nothing else left, and a Coke glazed ham from last week) with leeks (all now finished) and carrots (so many left…) all in a cream-forward (bought just for the pie) bechamel. Jus-rol pastry, of course, as I am lazy and can’t make pastry, and ready-made works lovely. It is ace. Pie for the win. . #pie

    Light carb, dry and sour. Smells like cherry and blackberry, tastes like blackberry, cherry and funky fruit baskets: straw, hay, mulchy berries and hints of white wine vinegar. Quite subtle, for all that.

    Rich and dark chocolate without too much sweetness. A touch of tart fruit from the casks, but its generally all very well integrated - berries and chocolate.

    At first, liquified liquorice. As it warms, chocolate brownies, rich chocolate sauce and building jammy edges. Surprisingly unboozy despite it being really boozy.
