Hello. My name is Billy and I like booze.

I’m a London-based drinks writer who will happily drink pretty much anything that comes my way – whisky and beer are my two main loves, but I can happily witter about most boozes, and often do. I wish I knew more about wine, but for now, I’ll leave that side of the industry to my dad.

By day I work for The Whisky Exchange – mainly writing content for the website, but also getting involved in tastings, product development and various other things – and the rest of my time is filled up with a variety of drinks related activities, including occasionally writing things on this blog.

You can find me at almost every Whisky Squad session, as I’m one of the organisers, and regularly see my work in print in Whisky Quarterly magazine. I’m also a judge for the World Whiskies Awards, Independent Bottlers Challenge and Global Spirits Masters, and do freelance consultancy work for drinks brands. I’m also available to run whisky, beer or spirits tastings.

You can find links to more things about me at billyabbott.uk or contact me at billy@cowfish.org.uk.

Obligatory things:

I am a participant in the Amazon Europe S.à r.l. Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk.

This site was called Billy’s Booze Blog for a little over seven years. All of those years of spelling out bbblog.org.uk finally took their toll, and spiritedmatters.com was born. The name came from a whisky blogger meme published by The Whisky Lady on her Facebook page, officially the only time such a thing has been useful.
